Broadcasting an RTSP video feed that uses H.265 (HEVC) encoding

My IP security camera RTSP video feed uses H.265 (HEVC) and I don't have the option to change that to something else, like H.264. I tried many times to stream the H.265 RTSP feed in OBS using the RTSP URL as the "Media Source" but it never works. But the RTSP URL works fine in VLC. And if I add open the RSTP URL as a network stream in VLC and then add this in OBS as a VLC Streaming Source it does work in OBS. Does anyone have any idea why this is and if there is a way to get OBS to work directly with the RTSP URL w/o having to use VLC?? Any comments or insight would be greatly appreciated.

It used to be a free download from MS but you can get it from the MS Store for $0.99.

There is a link on this NDI page to get it.

@rockbottom I installed teh HEVC decoder. No luck. Same as before. VLC can play it, OBS can use VLC as streaming source, but OBS won't work with plain old RTSP in Media Source. Any other ideas?

So the CODEC works with NDI, MS Movies & TV & other apps but not OBS? That blowz!

Sorry about that Davis. For the time being you might be stuck with VLC but hopefully at some point it gets supported by OBS too.

Hopefully it will get supported by OBS. If VLC can use it why not OBS? If someone learns that HEVC is supported sometime down the road by OBS please post here! Thanks.

They are working at it for some stuff, not sure if it will propagate down to media sources.

@DavisCH
It definitely works. I just don't like the extra step of transcoding by VLC and then restreaming in OBS.
No trancoding only decoding thats the why OBS has the VLC media source in it its uses VLC to play videos in OBS.
Why reinvent the wheel when its give good software thats make what you need add it as source for you programm an all is good !
