Question / Help Brand New User, not sure how to prevent frame skipping

I don't use Open Broadcaster to stream at all; I use it to record my monitor for Youtube videos, which works fairly well most of the time. However, I recently started recording games I've played, and for the first time I've gotten the "TAKING TOO LONG TO ENCODE" warning. The resulting video gets about one frame every five seconds of gameplay, which is terrible.

I have absolutely no idea how to fix this--I've looked at other threads that have similar issues but the jargon is a little over my head; I get the idea that I have to lower certain settings, but if anyone who knows this software better than I could tell me exactly which ones to tamper with and what that will do, I would find that extremely beneficial.

Here is my log file. I'm pretty sure all the settings are on default.

Monitor capture is the worst performing method of capture and is likely responsible for your issues. Use window or game capture. Also for local recording, why are you using 300kbps? Your videos will look awful.

Your CPU and video card are also very weak, so you may wish to lower your resolution too.

I used game capture and lowered the resolution, and that did help some, but It's still skipping a good few chunks of the video.
I do have to stress again that I am not very experienced with any of this software, so when you say "why are you using 300kbps? Your videos will look awful" I have no idea what you mean, what lowering or increasing that value will do, or why.
I'm also curious if by lowering the resolution you mean lowering the base resolution or selecting something from the resolution downscale option.

the actual question is how much upload do you have?

because with the hardware you got you can do pretty much nothing

i'd suggest as a try downscaling to 960x540 fps 30 and preset on ultrafast depending on your upload i'd say 1500

if it still gives you the warning or your games perform bad downscale even further to 480p

Either one should work. Lowering the base resolution might be better due to your video card being rather dated.

Bitrate is the biggest determining factor for quality. When streaming, you have to be careful not to set it too high to avoid lag and dropped frames, but for recording you're limited only by the speed of your hard disk, so you can set a much higher bitrate and get better quality. Try around 15000 kbps or see the Guides section for the 'High quality local recordings' guide.
