my pc specs, ryzen 7 5700g 4.2ghz cpu graphics card is AMD Radeon RX 6700 10GB motherboard asus prime B550-PLUS AC-HES, the blue screen that i see is distorted and i cant make out a error code if there is one, one bit of a note tho one way i have been able to get OBS to work is to reinstall OBS and when i do it says there is a program that is in use that OBS needs before i can install it and i need to close it AMD Software: Host Application is the program that i close to get it installed but closing it through task manager after install dose not let me run OBS without the blue screen crash.

Also, you may try to delete: C:\ProgramData\obs-studio-hook folder. Files in this directory and directory itself will be re-created after first use of "Game Capture" source in OBS.

deleted it, opened OBS same thing long pause a stutter then distorted blue screen computer reset, i looked over the linked known conflicts and i dont have any of them and i have the firewall whitelisting OBS and OBS is set to run as administrator, the adrenaline software for my radeon graphics card has capture/stream ability i wonder if that has the issue and if so i cant remove it without uninstalling my graphics software completely

If you are blue screening this would not be caused directly by OBS as it is just an application, blue screens are hardware or driver issues. You'll want to reach out to a more general tech support to see the root cause that OBS may be triggering.

ok ill see what i can figure out from AMD and see if they have any insight i figured because OBS is the only program i try to run that causes the crash might be some insight here.

You may try to find online the programs that will allow to you to read and understand the BSOD errors. Many moons ago it was "BlueScreenView" utility from NirSoft that work OK, I hope you will find similar utils for modern OS.

i have found a program that can find and read the dump files called whocrashed, and it dose not find any dump files, so this worries me i am still waiting on AMD to respond i know it will take longer to wait for that and just wanted to update on whats going on, thank you.

ok i now have a new weird interaction, if i run the installer for OBS after i reset my PC i can load and run OBS if i dont run the installer after my computer has restarted then i do get the blue screen crash, dose that mean anything should i drop my pc to geek squad to see why this happens? or do i just keep waiting for AMD to get back to me? i still think there is something going on between OBS and the adrenaline software by AMD causing an issue.

A blue screen crash when opening OBS without any crash log or event log from OBS or your graphics program suggests a deeper system-level issue. Possible causes include:

  • Driver Conflicts: Ensure your GPU drivers are up to date. Try rolling back to a previous version if the issue started after an update.
  • Hardware Issues: Check your RAM and GPU for potential faults using diagnostic tools like MemTest86 or GPU-Z.
  • Overlays & Background Apps: Disable any overlays (e.g., Discord, GeForce Experience) and close unnecessary background applications.
  • Windows Event Viewer: Even if OBS doesn’t generate a log, Windows Event Viewer (under 'System' logs) may provide crash details.
  • Reinstall OBS: Perform a clean reinstall of OBS, ensuring all previous settings and plugins are removed.

ok happy days i think it is fixed, going off the new suggestions of

Jack Boom i have double checked my updates for everything then i rolled back the GPU drivers, all checks on my RAM and GPU came back normal no errors i did several tests with and without my overlays and settings did a couple clean installs of OBS without saving my settings info, and when i got to the point of doing what i thought would crash my PC to see a new event log for the windows event viewer i did not crash i think rolling the GPU drivers back did the trick and i changes a setting in the AMD GPU software ill attach the screen shots on what i changed, so far making those changes and the help with everyone else i will say this is solved thank you guys so much for the input and the help i hope my mini meltdown helps others fix it faster.
