whenever I boot obs, all my desktop audio gets bloated. it goes back to normal after closing it, but changing volume doesn't help.

Then I'd start by checking your audio properties (the speaker icon in your system tray?). Sometimes Windows switches between devices and it's not always the most optimal setting.
I sometimes have the same issue with my headset: WIndows detects this as 2 separate audio devices, and sometimes it'll switch to the "wrong" one, which also has its effect on the audio.
