Blank Screen on OBS

Hi, Can someone help me fix the settings on my Mac Book Pro in order to receive a picture on my computer when connecting to my TV. I would appreciate it if someone can forward me with instructions on resetting everything up on the OBS system. It worked before but as I said, all I get on my Mac is a blank screen when connecting to my cable box.

It's possible that the cable box has become encrypted to protect copyrighted material. If that's the case, then we're not going to help you circumvent it. Sorry.

Same for FireSticks and other commercial content sources.

Thanks. It worked a few months ago, but the cable box may have blocked it after an update.

Hi again. I purchased a splitter which has an HDMI input from the cable to outputs for HDMI and the 3 outputs for composite cable (Yellow, Red, and White ). I connected the 3 composite connections to the OBS line, and I still only receive the sound but not the video. So nothing changed. I am fairly certain there is a problem with OBS. Are there any trouble shooting instructions along with set up instructions for OBS? Please help.

Again, encryption. Commercial sources know that if it's *possible* to steal their stuff, people will, rampantly, so they make it impossible unless you really know what you're doing. This is the result. And again, we're not going to help you circumvent it.

OBS is fine, and really has nothing to do with this anyway. It's all happening before OBS sees any of it. You're just threatening to do something illegal, from the perspective of people that are intentionally blocking you.

I purchased a splitter that has an HDMI Input port and a HDMI and Composite output ports (Red , white and yellow) I plugged the HDMI output into my TV and received a picture. I received sound but again no picture when I connected to the OBS input on my Mac. I still think the problem is with the OBS software after making these connections. Please offer any possible fixes. Thanks. Tom

The TV can receive encrypted video. A lot of capture cards don't, on purpose, because people will use them to steal stuff. Generally, if an output can't be encrypted (SDI digital, or Composite analog, or whatever), then a device is supposed to disable that output when it receives an encrypted input.

If your cable box is encrypted (as I would expect, given that it pretty much only plays commercially copyrighted content), then that's why the TV works and the capture doesn't. Sounds like both your capture card and your converter are doing exactly as they're supposed to.

Again, OBS has nothing to do with it, and we're not going to help you circumvent the copy protection that's intentionally keeping it from working.

What doesn't make any sense is it worked for a long time. Anyway is there any trouble shooting I can perform in case there may be a software problem?

The cable box probably got a software update. It wasn't encrypted before, and now it is.
(and for obvious reasons, you can't roll it back)

Feed the computer's HDMI output into the capture device. That's (usually) not encrypted. (*)

(*) I could be mistaken on this next point, but I remember a big deal a few years ago about Mac being encrypted always, regardless of what's playing on it, in an attempt to prevent copyright infringement of commercial content without actually having to detect it and make the switch. Again, I could be mistaken on that one, but if I'm right, then that's not a good test either, and I'm out of ideas without telling the general public how to steal copyrighted content.

Thanks . I have a special "C" connection on my Mac that I connect to the output device. This is my 2019 Mac Book Pro. I am on my 2011 Mac Book Pro right now, and the audio and video bars are moving, but I am not connected to anything right now. I will eventually try it on my TV. Going back to m 2019 Mac book Pro, the video bar shows nothing, even when not conected to my TV.
