Hi!

How much does the Blackmagic intensity shuttle (usb 3.0) take off from the laptop? Or does it affect the load at all on the "Shuttle"?
What encoding options do you recommend for OBS Studio with the following feature laptop?

- Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6300HQ CPU @ 2.30GHz (4 CPUs),
- Physical Memory: 16GB
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M, 4GB
- Intel(R) HD Graphics 530

The Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle is a capture card. It does not alleviate any type of load from your laptop -- its purpose is to take a video signal from a source and transmit the captured frames and audio to your computer. It does not help in any way with video encoding.

As far as the encoding options go for the laptop, that depends -- if all you're doing is video capture from a different device, with no extra load on the CPU, then you would probably be able to at least use x264 on the faster or fast preset for 720p60. Past that it's hard to say without actually testing it on the hardware.

If higher resolution is required, then hardware encoding would probably be the better option. Depending on whether the 950M supports it, you could use NVenc. If not, then QuickSync would be the alternative. Both of these would be lower quality than x264 even on very fast, but they would be much less of a performance hit... and if you're only recording (and not streaming), then this would be the go-to option, since bitrate limitations would not be a concern.

Now I understand, thank you. I would like to stream live sports with a video camera (sony handycam) on youtube or facebook. That's why I need Blackmagic! I want the best (1920x1080) resolution and streaming live video. The following encoding options are available.

I use this card. It captures only on well defined resolutions or resolution. When connected to my DSLR, I can capture only in 1080 59,95 or something like. Any other resolution would give a black screen. So, it only capture image. You can't change resolution on the capture to spare your computer. The only thing you can do is to modify your OBS resolution at all, like preview source, or overall resolution. But when capturing, you can't change to a desired value, like for instance, capture at 1280 x 720 to load less on your computer.
