Question / Help BlackMagic Intensity Pro & Skype...

Hi, just discovered this software and have a question:

My goal is to use my Canon camcorder's HDMI out as a webcam in Skype.

Question:
I saw on the home page that this software supports capture cards, so I assume it supports the BlackMagic Intensity Pro 4K card? If so, when connected and running through OBS, will Skype be able to see the video and use it as its webcam?

I understand there are some commercial products like XSplit, Wirecast, and possibly ManyCam that will allow this but I'd like to know if OBS will work for my needs. Also, I forgot to mention, I'm on Windows 7 platform.

Thanks!

yes, this technically, would but that's taking the long way around the long way have to recapture preview screen which is redundant to the redudancy of what your already doing.... ..like taking the scenic route around the scenic route LOL anyway. you can just probably use the native drivers to post into skype webcam selection or use any number of software.

but ...honestly, skype uses a heavy compression ratio and known for having like, no sync.. anyway, not worth 4K useage right now on skype. maybe other real time streaming services that support 4K better, skype will be your bottleneck, period even with the long way around being taken.

my suggestion is to buy and find a HDMI to USB 3.0 adapter. has to accept HDMI in and output to USB 3.0 side, few i seen that do it, most go from USB to HDMI, that's not what you want. and ensure it use progressive, not interlaced. like 720P, 1080P, etc interlaced can have motion problems if decoding/encoding engine is garbage or bitrate is low, scan lines can get nasty. and progressive video can be a lot cleaner even if codec engine is bit garbage.

There is an adapter by a company called Magewell, and I bought it, it had issues, they RMA'd it but I had to ship it to China and that was 2 months ago. I may have very well lost $299! So I'm looking for another solution for an upcoming project. Skype will not recognize any capture cards directly as webcams, at least not on Windows..

well...elgato.. maybe? they make gaming capture system via HDMi and are well respected in gaming community. ultra low latancy and little to no hit on system resources as they encode on there own devices and then spit it out in realtime.. im sure on their forums they have a wizard that can work out how u can do it. i dont know if they have a solution or not, but....im considering an elgato HD60Pro pci-e card if i cant get my APU to work as a capture/encode for my dedicated card, i heard really good things about them and huge fan base. so im sure someone knows something on those forums. and they have there own devices to there software...kill 2 birds with one stone.

EEW,

No. Not elgato.

The blackmagic software package PROBABLY offers a directshow source, but getting that to work with skype is beyond the scope of these forums.

it works better than alot of things and i can confirm from a post there is a method to convert to a webcam or nearly any generic form such as directshow and mirroring, on certain models to allow greater compatability with apps that dont support there api or elgato does not support there own nativity. as far as quality is concerned..he using skype, even wiht best connection in world, ip to ip directly, skype makes a mess of it somehow, so quality isnt an issue even with lower end capture. . .. and easy of use, ranks high and above most other capture solutions, including this complicated software has to offer for me..or infact most AMD users or users with unique situations like your own(to OP). makes me regret joining in on the PC fun when something theoretically simple, turns into hours and hours of failure. ..specially isnt helpful when the VCE branch of OBS is nothing but acronyms for things i really dont wanna know, ..imaging having dinner or drinks with person that concerns themselves with IME search windows and predictive MV points and QP constraints. ._____.

ok back on topic...*blinks and stares inquisitively forward*...ya ..so..ya

I sent an email to Elgato, not familiar with their products.. Someone posted online that they can use their BlackMagic Intensity Card directly with Skype in Windows 10, but I'm on 7 still..

I bought some software called XSplit Broadcaster, and it halfway works, but not quite,, having a lot of audio problems with it. Terrible company when it comes to tech support.

In the past I asked about Skype and you said that was a no go.. But what about being able to use one of the Webinar services/software out there like Webinar Jam, or Webinar Ignition? Would I be able to use my XA10 with OBS for that?
