Question / Help Black Screen

Hi everyone, I'm new to OBS, and have downloaded it to record my screen (as opposed to for streaming/gaming). The problem is that when I try and add a new source - either "Windows Capture" or "Display Capture", I just get a black screen, rather than the cascading preview that I've seen on all the YouTube how to videos. I saw a feed on this forum that said it's a capture issue - because I've got more than one graphics driver. However I've gone into the nvidia control panel and adjusted the 3D settings so that the software only uses the Nvidia adapter - but no joy - I still get the same black screen. Does anyone know what's causing this? Looks like this software is just not going to work on my Asus gaming laptop, but I don't record my screen often enough to justify the licence for something like Camtasia :(

Short version: if you're on a Laptop and if you want to use a "display capture" source, assign OBS to the internal GPU in the Nvidia 3D settings. If you want to use a "game capture" source instead, assign OBS to the high performance GPU in the Nvidia 3D settings. If that doesn't work for you, consult the linked guide.

I've followed that linked guide and still get a "Starting the output failed" error message. https://obsproject.com/logs/6MKukw4W9eq5z76p

There's my log file. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
