Question / Help Black Screen

I just got the program today but I must have done something to the settings because it now will not show my game. I know how to set up the software, Create a scene, Add a Source. The Source I have been trying to use the game capture, I see Arma III in properties box I select it and the preview and stream shows a black screen. The windowed source works fine and so does the integrated web cam, mic and speakers also work. Just no game audio or video. I have tried Alt-tabbing back and forth, reinstalling, installing beta version, using only one monitor, and other games none work. I can't see or record any game. I also tried using dxtory.

Can you use Game Capture on other games?

If so, then I suspect Arma 3 is using some sort of paranoid anti cheat stuff. It's been a somewhat recurring problem with Arma 2, which uses BattlEye.

I cannot record ANY game what so ever. It was working for a while, I streamed a little bit of gameplay of DayZ mod then it stopped working.

First, appears you're using a laptop, please see the sticky for laptop capturing: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5965

Secondly, for certain games such as arma, make sure to run OBS as admin.

Actually I looked over it again and it seems that things are okay with the logs -- though if it's set up like an optimus that could be the problem. Not entirely sure actually. Typically if you get a black screen on a laptop is just means you're using the wrong adapter for capturing and have to switch to the other.

Sometimes games also will inadvertently run on the intel adapter instead of the nvidia, which makes it even more of a pain.

God I wish laptops didn't have to be such a pain to capture efficiently.

Alternatively, if you feel like you just can't figure out how to get it properly working and would just like a quick workaround, then if your game has a borderless windowed mode, I would suggest switching it to that, then using window capture with the "compatibility mode" checkbox in window capture properties to force a cross-adapter capture. It's much less efficient then matching the adapters, but it ensures you'll be able to actually capture the game.

Well I would run in borderless windowed if I thought that was my only option but the fact that it was working says to me that there is a way. How about this, how can I reset ALL my OBS to default? When I uninstall OBS and reinstall all my settings are still there. Maybe there Is something I clicked or did to mess this thing up.

You can reset your general settings just by deleting the "profiles" folder in %appdata%\obs (with obs not running)

Well that didn't work. It reset all the settings,
Went to settings changed the video adapter from Intel to Nvidia,
Added a source, Game Capture, selected Arma III
Added a source, Video capture Device, Integrated Cam, 176x144
Preview, BLACK, top left shows cam feed like before

Also tried this with non steam game Killing Floor, tired with Far Cry 3, Company of Heroes.

Anything else I can try? Dev help?

Jim is the lead dev.

Can you post a log of you attempting to capture with game capture?

Odd, it looks like it never actually tries to capture the game. It doesn't give a success or error message when trying to hook the game, it just kind of...stops, like it never got to the point where it was trying to capture. You did give the game focus after adding the game capture, right? Because most games don't render anything when the game is minimized in fullscreen mode.

Try this: Instead of selecting the game in Game capture properties, choose a hotkey, and then once you get in game, press the hotkey to start capturing the game, and see if that works, and post a log of that attempt as well.

I have tried alt tabbing I'm not sure what you mean by focused. I put the Game Capture on HotKey, I used Num Del, I clicked start preview went into arma iii and press Num Del, still nothing.

Some people seem to be experiencing this problem with arma 3, it was reported by another. This appears to be specific to just arma 3, and I don't currently know why it's occurring. I checked with some others and it was working fine with them though, so I'm trying to figure out what specifically is going wrong to cause this to happen.

Battlefield 3, Splinter Cell Blacklist, Arma II DayZ, Saints Row IV, Company of Heroes, Far Cry 3 and Killing Floor. These are the games I have tired Previewing and Stream both Auto and Hot Key. None of them worked. When I fist DL OBS DayZ was the first game I streamed and it was working just very low quality, I rose the bitrate up and it looked great. I stopped streaming for a few hours and when I tried to stream again, Black Screen. Now I did my own research before coming to the forums, I have tried everything. Nvidia control panel, High Performance for battery control, using the Hot Key, reinstalling, Updating PC, Restarting PC, Close FRAPS and more.

I guess I did that Hot Key thing wrong. Can you not use the Hot Key once your in game? I pressed the Hot Key while I the game was minimized and OBS open changing settings and Something strange happened. It looks like I was trying to capture my desktop or window.

ALSO, Sound is NOW working on the preview. Still a black screen though. But Progress.

If it seems delayed it's because unfortunately it seems to work fine for the one tester I know who has it, so I'll have to probably buy the game first before I can do anything with it.

But like I said it is not just with Arma it is with every game I own that I can not preview or stream due to this black screen. All I hear is sound and I only hear sound if I use the hot key method. Another thing that might help is that it states I cannot right click and run with prefered graphics processor NVIDIA gpu. I am the owner of this PC and my account is an administrator account, I am able to right click and do this with every other program but OBS. So I went into the NVIDIA control panel and added the OBS and forced it to use the GPU and not the intergraded, I did this before I made this entire topic but curious to know why I cannot use the right click and run with gpu method.

It works fine for me most of the time, both with hotkey or if I select it in the drop-down menu. Sometimes it crashes the game tho and the log says:
18:48:15: Warning -- GraphicsCaptureSource::BeginScene: Failed to inject library, error code = -5
18:48:34: Capture window 0x04AA0C34 invalid or changing, terminating capture
