Question / Help Black Screen

Im new to OBS and when i tried to stream Minecraft as a game capture, the stream just went black. at first it worked, then it stopped working. Here is my log:

You need to start Minecraft before obs.

Close mine craft>delete game capture>close obs>launch the game>launch obs and then create a new game capture source. and then it should work like it did first time.

Also make sure that you've logged into minecraft first and are at least in the minecraft main menu before you start

TF2 should work fine with it, there are a large number of TF2 players who commonly use it

Is this the way it always was or did something change that caused this to be the case that you need to run the game before the recording software?

I never recalled having to deal with the above described until this week as far as I can recall.

Most games don't require that, it happens for some game when game capture tries to hook to the game, you have to be passed some point in the game and also not having something still hooking it.

I have been attempting to record Minecraft to a file and keep getting one of 2 errors:
Either I get a black screen for the stream
Or when I try to view the file WMP gives me an error along the lines of "unrecognized codec".
Any thoughts?
