Question / Help Black screen

So I just recently got into obs because I was going to start streaming. But for some reason it won't capture the desktop through monitor capture. It captures gameplay just fine through the game capture source and text appears with the text source. But I just can't get it to capture the desktop. Does anyone have a solution to try for this? And yes I have read and tried the nividia control panel fix that is posted in the support thread.

I don't know what info could help so here are some of my computer specs.
Screen res: 1920x1080
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M Up-to-date
Windows 8.1
16GB RAM

Monitor capture does not work with switchable graphics (aka optimus).

The only option for graphics card in the video options is my nvidia card. Would it still be considered switchable?
I dont know, post a link to your log from the help menu. the intel graphics is often combined with your GPU. Its switchable so it might only show one or the other.

Code:
20:43:26: Adapter 1
20:43:26: Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M
20:43:26: Video Adapter Dedicated Video Memory: 3221225472
20:43:26: Video Adapter Shared System Memory: 1073676288
20:43:26: Video Adapter Output 1: pos={0, 0}, size={1536, 864}, attached=true
20:43:26: ------------------------------------------
20:43:26: Adapter 2
20:43:26: Video Adapter: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600
20:43:26: Video Adapter Dedicated Video Memory: 0
20:43:26: Video Adapter Shared System Memory: 1879048192

you have optimus graphics, aka switchable. you can only use game capture or window capture. there is a way to get monitor capture working, but it would require undoing a bunch of things which isn't practical.

Alright. I didn't know it still didn't work if everything ran with the nvidia. So is there a way to capture what happens on the desktop or am I confined to capturing the gaming windows?

Its either but not both, remove OBS from nvidia control panel, and change to the intel gpu in the video tab of OBS
