Question / Help Black Screen or Distorted Image

Hey i am completely new to this but i just installed a AverMedia Game Broadcaster HD and have followed the settings guide on the website but i keep getting a black screen or a distorted screen initially when i try to stream through Twitch, please could someone help i would definitely appreciate it.
