I guess I didn't know how to use it! Works now, and incredibly smooth, so much smoother than camstudio and AutoScreenRecorder it's night and day.

One problem I'm having is that, though the window source works most of the time, it doesn't work for the program I need it to which is Rhinoceros 3D. I can just do a screen capture instead I guess, but then I'm going to have to crop the video which I can't do in the video edditing program I am using (windows movie maker). I could do it with another program, but it is all getting a bit roundabout.

Is there a way to capture a particular region of the screen perhaps? Or maybe you have a suggestion for how to easily crop?

Thanks,
Sam

You can add a Crop Filter to any video source in OBS MP. Just right-click the source -> FIlters. It's not very user friendly, but it works..

Thanks, that worked. Though you are right, not very user friendly, but maybe I am missing something. To get rid of the leftover black space, I had to drag my source window to fit my scene (not sure if I am using these terms right...), but then the aspect ratio was off, so I had to adjust my crop so that its aspect ratio was the same as my screen. Maybe there is a better way to do this?

Also, I'm wondering if there is a tool to make my mouse clicks obvious, perhaps a growing ring like other software do.

I am very impressed by this software, not user friendly, but very functional.

Thanks,
Sam

You would have to adjust the Base Resolution to the Resolution of your cropped Source.
(File>Settings>Video Base and Output Resolution should be the same as your Source)

To find out the dimensions right click the Source > Transform > Edit Transform > Values where it says Size
You also have to make sure that the Source is selected with the red border in the preview otherwise it will not tell you.

You would also have to do this of course before you stretch out the Source.

There's a checkbox "Capture Mouse Cursor" in most sources. Tha'll only show your mouse cursor though, there's currently no way to have OBS play some sort of animation whenever you click. The next best would be installing an animated cursor on your machine, then recording with that.
