Black screen in OBS when trying to record with video camera

Hi everyone. So essentially, I want to be able to stream some high school sports games while also recording them on the video camera. I know that OBS has it's own recording function but we need the guys on the field to start/stop recording whenever they need to because it becomes incredibly tedious to cut up 3 hours of footage in one big block. But when I hit the record button on my camera, my screen immediately goes black in OBS. Is there a way for me to be streaming while recording from my video camera without using the record function in OBS?

That would be controlled by the camera. When you try to use the camera with a TV as your viewfinder, does the TV go black when you start recording with it?

It sounds like your camera stops sending video output when you start recording on the camera. OBS can't fix that. It's the camera's fault. You'll need a different camera that keeps sending video-out while recording internally.

One thing I do to make editing later easier is to use the InfoWriter plugin to write out timestamps whenever I hit a certain button. At least then I know roughly where I need to scrub to, to find action I want to save.

You might also look at the Replay Buffer function. Lets you save off the last X seconds (length configurable, but not on the fly) to a video file on the disk. Setting that to 5 minutes could at least make the trimming easier.
