Question / Help Black screen - but not always. And not Nvidia - I don't have that.

I want to do a game play video
I have AMD, but not Nvidia on my laptop. So this does not appear to be a question of mismatching.

I start recording. I have the OBS on my second screen.
The recorder picks up the website, and everything in the web browser just fine - I can record games that open within a web browser, too.
But when I open a game, and the game "window" is on its own (NOT in the browser), it appears only as a black screen, though the sound records just fine.

I have been to the add source option, but the game window never seems to be one of the available options - the web browser is there, any other screens I have open are, just not the game.
I'm in windows 8 and it sucks ass for finding anything like log files.... I'll try if this is not a common problem that can be answered without.
Thank you for any help!

If you have a AMD/intel switchable graphics laptop then you need to run the game in a borderless/windowed mode and use window capture with 'compatibility mode' checked. It's the only way to really capture games on those types of laptops. It sucks, but that's the situation for the time being.
