Alright so let my start by i'm totally new to recording. First time i've ever done this. So, with that said.
I'm running a Toshiba Satellite, specs here:

Not the "best" but it does it good enough. So here i am, yes it's a laptop, and i get a black screen when recording. I read that i need to use compatibility mode, how do i turn it on?
also - here's the log analyzer and my results. I currently have the Base Resolutions at 780:438 with an aspect ratio of 130:73.
