Question / Help Black or Flickering Screen with Console Capture

Hello,

I am trying to record from my Wii using OBS. My capture card is an AVerMedia HD Capture C985. I am using a component to HDMI converter. While previewing the stream, audio comes through, but not video, I just get a black screen. The capture card has two HDMI ports (I'm assuming one input and one output?). If I unplug the cable that is NOT connected to the Wii, the preview will display the Wii, but it will be glitchy, flashing green and vertically scrolling. If I start the preview with the cable already unplugged, the same thing will happen when I plug it in.

I can post any screen shots as needed. I have tried different programs, such as RECentral, where I have the same problem while previewing. I've adjusted resolution as suggested by many other threads, but that didn't work either.

I appreciate any help.
 
Okay, wait, something weird happened. When my computer's screen saver came up, it was displaying the video from my capture card, which was me playing the game across my room in real time.
 
Sorry to triple post/bump this thread, but I realized that if I plug an HDMI cable into the DVI port in the back of my monitor, I can get the stream to display by switching my monitor's display to DVI from HDMI. I'm assuming that this has something to do with the fact that I'm getting a black screen.
