Bitrate calculation & obs configuration

Hi all,

First post, please be kind.

I have recently started with OBS and I still haven't figured out the best setting for my setup (after hours and hours of watching tutorials)

Mainly I stream FPS games like COD: Warzone and RTS games like Anno 1800.

Can someone tell me what settings to adjust on OBS since some of my streams are nice and others pretty crappy?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance and I truly respect your time and effort.

Well bitrate is king and your upload is to low to deliver a good looking stream at 1080p with fast paced games. Upgrade your connection to 10 mbit upload and stream with 8 mbit bitrate and enjoy a good looking stream.

5 mbit upload are 5000 kbit upload. 20% less as buffer and your voip and gaming traffic leaves you with about 4000 kbit/s available for streaming. For a fast paced game you probably want 60 fps, this leaves you with 720p or 1280x720 as output resolution and bitrate 4000. For 1920x1080, you're lacking upload speed.

I ended up on the following:

Item
Settings selected
Output resolution
1280x 720p
FPS
30fps
Downscale filter
Lanczos (sharpened scaling,36 samples)
Bitrate
3000 Kbps
Output Preset
Max quality

Any thoughts?

If it works for you, good. No value you set is bigger than it should be. I would use 3500 kbps for quality.
