Question / Help Bit rate issues

Hello everybody,

Lately, whenever I stream my bit rate seems to die. Sometimes it drops down to 200-400 from what it's supposed to be (~2300) for a little bit (causing dropped frames) and other times it just completely dies out. The stream keeps going but with 0 kb/s.

I have an upload speed of 12mb/s so I should be able to stream with a bitrate of 2300 easily. My internet does not seem to be the problem either. I stream League of Legends and I have my ping in the top right corner. It's usually around 14 but sometimes it increases to 18 tops. Whenever it spikes up, even a little bit, my OBS seems to take a serious hit. Sometimes causing dropped frames or a whole shutdown of the connectivity...

I'm connected to the server with the best bandwith, which for me is Frankfurt. My bitrate is set to 2300, but even if I lower it all the way down to 1800 the problems still persist.

Thank you for your time

Code:
21:16:37.038: [rtmp stream: 'simple_stream'] Interface: Killer e2200 Gigabit Ethernet Controller (ethernet, 1000 mbps)
...
21:22:05.304: Output 'simple_stream': Number of dropped frames due to insufficient bandwidth/connection stalls: 2255 (22.9%)

If you have the Killer network software installed, highly recommend you download the drivers only package (make sure you do this first before uninstalling) for the card and remove their software. It's well known to cause all sorts of network issues.

I've downloaded the 64 bit driver only package, do I have to do anything with this or has it been installed already? I'm not too sure how drivers work.

Also, what kind of software does Killer install? I've been searching but I'm not finding any on my computer. What am I looking for exactly?

Thank you for your help so far

It will be called Killer Network Manager or something similar, I'm not sure as I don't use their products because they're known to be terrible. Just check add/remove programs for anything with killer in the name. Once you remove anything from there, install the drivers only package and try to stream again.

I only have the Killer drivers right now, but it has not taken care of the problem. If anything, it has made the problem worse. Now my bitrate is always very unstable, always in the red. Only spiking up to a bitrate where my stream goes live very rarely.

Here is the log:

Edit:
Here's another log from a slightly longer test. This time my bitrate stayed around 2300 for ~10 seconds before dropping again. Frames dropped were about 38%

Can you run the twitchtest tool again with the directions I provided and post the image or the results? I would like to see the full results so we have something to go off.

Hey Fenrir,

My bitrate was stable until today, and I don't know why. It's dropping frames heavily, usually around 30%.
The weird thing is, if I connect to the Amsterdam server which is the closest to me I only get 400 kb/s max and 90%+ frames dropped...while if I connect to any other server the bitrate is simply unstable. Does this mean it's a problem on my end?

Here's the TwitchTest results: http://i.imgur.com/cn2B5Bf.png

Yes, those results definitely mean it's an issue on your side. Give your ISP a call and see if they can help.

Usually the main problem with dropping frames is the server it self.
Normally you would take the closest server in you area or put the server settings to ( Automatic ).
I would not recommend automatic settings.

Do some test streams with 3 different servers that are close and have the best Quality.
You can find the best servers in your region with this application > https://r1ch.net/projects/twitchtest

When you have 3 new video's with at least a 15 min duration for each video you should see a big difference in quality & performance.

Login with your twitch account > https://inspector.twitch.tv
And look for your 3 video's. Compare them and look which server fits best on your stream.

Your problem should be solved.
