Question / Help Best possible settings for me?

Hi guys,

I know there are lot of threads with this topic but - every pc/network setup is different, so I thought I could open my own thread now. I Changed from XSplit to OBS since I tried OBS the first time cause the difference between the quality is huge, but I wonder if it would be possible for me to get even more out of OBS.

My PC specs:
i5-2500k @3.30Ghz
ATi 6850
8GB DDR3 RAM
HDD storage (too lazy to switch to ssd :P )

My OBS settings are:
Quality 10 ; Bitrate 2500 ; Buffer 3000
Downscale from 1680x1050 to 1120x700 @30FPS
Preset: faster
Multithread on
Sendingbuffer 11680

My CPU-Usage is round about 50-60% while streaming Diablo 3, about 90% if I stream Black Ops 2 with these settings.

Spoiler shows the log for the posted example.

Now - is it possible to tweak my settings to get even more out of OBS? Btw, Streaming in full resolution (1680x1050) works aswel, but there are many pixelations on fast movements.

Best regards and thanks in advance,
Smoky

That's about as good as you're going to get without either: upping resolution and bitrate or changing to 60FPS stream. Can easily get away with only 2800 bitrate and Faster preset to get a very good looking 60fps stream, and 60fps adds a lot to perceived quality.

For first person shooter games, it's actually recommended to lower the Quality Balance setting a decent amount to preserve quality in high motion scenes (this might actually help in D3 as well). So putting it at like 6 for Black Ops 2 might get good results without having to up your bitrate much, if at all.

Change quality to 8

Hi again,

thanks for your help - I will try it out! :)

greets,

€dit: Wow ... kinda funny ... reducing the quality actually gets me a better one :O last try for Black Ops 2 was with 700p, 30FPS, quality 6 and 2700 rates - seemed to be very clear in comparision to 1050p and quality 8. Might play around with these settings in some time but for now it seems to be nearly perfect! Thanks a lot!
