What are the best high quality recording settings? Much appreciated

Use the recording quality presets under Settings > Output (Simple output mode) or read http://obsproject.com/forum/resourc...lity-recording-and-multiple-audio-tracks.221/ (Advanced output mode)

You should also enable vsync or use the fps_max cvar to limit your in-game frame rate so your CPU/GPU aren't maxed out.

does the crf have to be in between 15 and 25 or can it actually be one of those numbers?

Technically it can be anything from 0 to 51, but you'll most likely want to use something in the 15-25 range. Lower and the file size will start to be less manageable, higher and the quality will start to be less acceptable. If you don't need any of the features in Advanced output mode, just use the recording quality presets.

The highest value that still produces acceptable quality. You'll need to experiment to find the value that suits you.
