Question / Help Basic Setup of Stream Settings Qs and x264 preset Qs

Hello everyone,

I was looking into making my streaming settings as best as I can do.

Currently the build I am working with is shown in the screenshot below.

For chat, I like to not use a secondary monitor because I do notice a fps drop while playing games. So, in this case I use my old iPhone for twitch chat. I was wondering, if I use my old 770 gtx and connect the monitor to it, that should fix the problem if I really wanted another monitor right?

I currently have Time Warner extreme internet. If you are not familiar with the service, it provides me 60 Mbps/5 Mbps.

Below you can find some of my OBS settings.

I was wondering in the screenshot below, my quality balance is disabled. Is the 8 doing anything now? If so, should I turn this to 10? Will this affect my CPU or internet or both?

In the next screenshot you will see my video settings in OBS. I currently run a 720 downscale, with a filter of Lanczos. After looking at the some youtube videos on the filter settings, it seems like a no brainier to go with that setting. Lastly, the FPS. I noticed in past twitch subreddit post, people recommend 30 FPS. But if you check all the streams (even lower count ones) you noticed most people tend to use 60 FPS. By going to 60 FPS, this will tax my CPU and internet right? What do you guys recommend about this?

Lastly, the main window I wanted more information on because I believe this will fix some of the blocky stream. Now, I was wondering how can I fix the blockyness on my stream, while say playing CSGO. I ask this because if you watch many other CSGO streamer (the top ones) they have a pretty clear stream even in fast motion scenes. I was wondering if the x264 CPU Preset is the setting I would need to adjust for this to disappear? To go into more detail about this, you can see what I'm talking about at https://www.twitch.tv/pr0gz/v/76021467 at about 30 seconds into the video. If you watch someone like phantoml0rd, you notice his streams are crystal clear. Is he allowed to stream at a higher bit rate?

I am a tech geek, and notice the difference from my video to another. Is it really that bad or am I noticing to much because I understand the technology?

Thanks.

Using a second monitor to watch OBS/chat/etc. should have a negligible impact on performance as long as it's connected to the same GPU OBS is capturing from. Connecting a second monitor to a second GPU will be a problem. Hook it all up to your primary GPU.

Quality Balance controls x264's CRF param which is not used for CBR encoding (i.e. streaming). See https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/how-to-make-high-quality-local-recordings.16/

720p30 requires less CPU power and tends to look better at watchable bitrates compared to 720p60. Use whichever you prefer. See https://obsproject.com/forum/thread...oads-constantly-for-my-viewers-but-why.18465/

Your VOD looks poor because you're streaming at 1704x960 at 60 FPS. The Twitch max of 3500 Kbps isn't enough to make high motion content look decent at that resolution and frame rate. Twitch partners often have access/permission to use bitrates higher than 3500 Kbps and viewers have lower quality transcoded versions of the stream available.

You'll never completely eliminate compression artifacts, but using a more appropriate resolution will help. Your 4790K can probably manage 720p60 on the faster or fast preset with CS:GO as well.
