Bad quality in videos but good in the preview mode

Hi, I've been making videos and realise that in the preview mode it looks just the same as the viedogame, but when I see the video I recorded it looks bad. Any sugestions?

Use the Auto Configuration Wizard (tools > auto configuration wizard) as a first step.

Otherwise, provide a logfile, that way it is easier to guide you on what might be a possible solution. I have a how-to in my signature.

The preview window and the recording bitrate do not share an 'output'.
Your preview will always look 'identical' to what you are capturing, the recording or streaming outputs are completely different.
For streaming it's the bitrate you set that controls the way it looks (there's much more to it than just that).
For recording, well that's much more complex compared to streaming setup. I suggest you go "Type: Standard", select "Recording Format: mkv", and depending on your system either NVIDIA NVENC H.264 or the amd version of H.264 (don't know what that is called).
I would suggest CQP 22-18 depending on the quality to file size you want, the lower the number the better the quality (to an extent, 12 is essentially lossless and anything lower is just not worth it), but also the bigger the output file will be.
If you want to do something that's 'decent-good' then go with a CBR Rate Control rather than CQP, CBR = a constant bitrate you set, this also means the file size is controlled by this bitrate, the higher the bitrate the bigger the file, but this also means the better the quality.
Like mentioned before CQP is much better quality, BUT only for someone who doesn't care if their 1hr recording is around a quarter TB. lol not a joke, depending on the Resolution/FPS along with various other things.

That's all i've got for ya, What Zidakuh said, check their signature for that 'how-to'
