Question / Help Background noise when I speak.

So I have a laptop and it's fan is kinda loud so I had to muck around with the noise gate.

I've got to the stage where there is no background noise when I'm quiet.

As soon as I talk the fan noise comes up in the background. I don't understand how/why this is happening but it is and I need someone to help me to fix it.

Thanks.

That's the intended behavior. Noise gate doesn't filter out background noise, it simply mutes the mic completely if the noise is below your specified dB threshold. When you talk it opens the mic back up and the background noise will still be there in addition to your voice.

If you want to actually try to filter background noise I believe you would need to use a 3rd party application that allows you to apply filters to real-time audio input (e.g. Adobe Audition)... or buy a better (preferably unidirectional) microphone.
