Question / Help AVX Instructions?

Hello all,

I am just wondering if OBS uses AVX instructions in any of it's operations. This is important to me and probably anyone who overclocked his CPU because AVX instructions can cause the CPU voltage to raise roughly 0.08V-0.15V above the maximum defined voltage and cause overheating and/or damage to the CPU.

This explains my PC crahing during streaming even though all stresstests and benchmarks passed successfully...

Is there a way to disable this feature?

It's best to make sure your overclock is stable instead of hiding the problem. AVX instructions use more power because they are more efficient, disabling them would cause lower performance and more CPU usage. If you really want to disable them you'll need to compile your own libx264 DLL without assembly optimizations.

I understand. It is a question of preference.

I managed to lower the voltage to a level that allows me minor OC (4.2GHz from 3.8GHz) and still runs at acceptable voltage and temperature even when AVX is raising the voltages.
