I've seen many posts here asking whether to get an AverMedia ExtremeCap U3 or an Elgato HD60. I've been testing both over the last few days and have decided to return the Elgato HD60 for these reasons:

Daniel,
Thank you for contacting Elgato Systems.
We appreciate your question regarding the Elgato Game Capture HD60.
Unfortunately we cannot discuss future releases.
Also the Game Capture HD60 is not compatible with third party software, thus you can only use the Game Capture HD software with this capture card.
Please let us know if this helps or if more support is needed.

Because you only offer a 32-bit driver, 64-bit applications cannot see and communicate with the HD60. Will you be releasing a 64-bit driver anytime soon?
- The HD60 is only USB 2.0 (U3 is USB 3.0) which is bizarre considering it claims 1080p streaming at 60fps. There must be some kind of compression happening before output which may explain the next bullet point.
- There are some known video delay issues with HD60 which are detailed in several other posts and I've experienced these personally in testing. Just search for the terms HD60 and delay.
- Elgato did not make a 64-bit driver for the HD60 so only the 32-bit version of OBS can be used with it, whereas the U3 can be used with the 64-bit version of OBS. This made a small, but noticeable, difference for me in CPU utilization while encoding.
- I contacted Elgato support (asking about a 64-bit driver) and they told me that the HD60 does not support any 3rd party streaming software and that I should be using the shit software it comes with! AverMedia supports OBS according to their website so you'll never get a response from them like the one I got from Elgato below...
