Question / Help Avermedia LiveGamer Extreme freezes periodically

The video capture from my Avermedia LGX freezes periodically throughout my stream. I can fix it by removing and re-adding the source, so I'm pretty sure that the problem is with OBS Studio rather than with my capture card. I used to stream with this same capture card on OBS Classic without any issues. Has anybody encountered this before, and if so how did you resolve it? Thanks for the help!

This has been hitting me almost from the moment I got the card. It's not just OBS though, it's been freezing in RECentral3 as well though to be fair I haven't used RECentral for a while because it felt like it froze more often in RECentral... I think it's a combination of Windows 10 anniversary and Avermedia not creating a driver that's stable with win 10 anniversary. It would be nice if someone definitively knew what it was. I doubt it's the card itself since the issue is easily worked around by deactivating and reactivating the source in OBS. You'd think if it was hardware you would need to do something more drastic like rebooting the card.

Not sure if anyone is reading this thread, but Avermedia put a new driver out that claims to fix video freezing for some platforms. Just thought people might want to know.

Actually the driver mentioned above only caused it to freeze less.

This version has seemingly completely fixed the problem. I have not had a single freeze since installing it. [Touch wood] It is the July 18th special beta edition. This version and ONLY this version will resolve the freezing. Obviously do not install any of the older drivers. Don't even install the newer beta special driver that was released in August. It would seem to reason that the newer version would carry the freeze fix, but it will actually cause the freezing problem to return.

Hope this post helps people.

I have the same problem. At first when the screen went frozen, I simply restarted the OBS. Recently, I realized that when the game capture screen freezes, right click - property - change ANY option you see and then click CANCEL unfreezes the game screen. No reconnecting capture card, no restarting OBS. Just make a change in capture card property and "Cancel"ing it unfroze the screen. According to this experience, I humbly suggest the problem is in OBS studio program, because I didn't restart my system, didn't reconnect any physical cables, and didn't even turned off the OBS studio.(Not sure cause I have very limited knowledge on computer engineering, so I humbly suggest...)
With my grateful mind so far, I hope the OBS dev team see this thread and let us Avermedia users know what the problem is, resolve the problem, and thus, make OBS even better. I'm always thanking you guys for making streaming much easier for me. Thank you.

P.S. I hope to ensure that my current status is not outdated. I already tried that link @Zachrulez posted, and it didn't work because my RECentral is already updated. Of course my OBS studio is also up to date and I'm also sure all the drivers I have are up to date, and my devices are powerful enough to stream.

A short excuse : English is not my first language. I think there can be some part that English users can't understand about my words, mostly because of the lack of my knowledge. That is why I wrote comments that long. To say my situation clearly.

I hope this problem will get fixed soon.

I am having the exact same issue as JDKim has described.

I have a Avermedia LGX GC550. Within OBS the video source being used to capture video and audio from an external system (Laptop and PS4) will periodically freeze both the Audio and Video capture. This can take up to a couple hours to happen, or could happen within minutes of streaming. Once it starts it can happen every few seconds or go for up to an hour between freezes. All that is needed to 'refresh' the source is to go into the sources properties, change anything and then cancel out of the change.

So far I have done a clean reinstall of the current version of OBS. Rolled back to an older version which was working fine in Jan. I have reinstall the card drivers and software. Reinstalled my USB 3.0 hub from Device Manager. Swapped USB ports being used.

When I am living I am only running OBS Studio, Chromacam and Streamlabs chatbot software. Here is the log for todays stream, the lockup happened right before the switch to the 'EOD Scene' and there is no log entry to match.

13:07:42.294: adding 46 milliseconds of audio buffering, total audio buffering is now 139 milliseconds
15:08:55.578: User switched to scene 'EOD Scene'

I am currently trying to solve the exact issue that Gimikthegeek is describing, also with an LGX GC550.

I didn't think it was the Capture Card because it only happens with OBS thus far, and in the case of my Nintendo Switch, simply pulling the Switch out of it's dock and back in again (so restarting the stream of HDMI input to the card) solves the issue when it arises. So the capture card does not need to be rebooted, just the HDMI stream when it's stuck.

I had an older legacy driver for my GC550 because people mentioned it being a problem, but I recently had it arise anyways, after the latest Windows update. So I decided to update to the latest LGX GC550 drivers to no luck.

Its been a while but I remember I use to have a similar problem where the image would freeze. From what I remember I think what did it was in video capture source change the FPS from match output to either 30 or 60 fps. Also make sure your usb 3.0 chipset is supported. I had some weird issues caused by that as well.

If that doesnt help let me know and I can check my exact settings.

Hi, I have the same issue with the Live Gamer Ultra.
I have already intuitively played with the settings, but none seem to change that.

What I did notice is, that other then I first thought and tried, I only need to touch a setting in OBS for the Device and it will immediately work again. So, I am not sure if actually the card is freezing or if just OBS is for some reason stalling that input stream.
