Question / Help AVermedia Live Gamer Extreme Stuttering/Flickering Problem

I just got my AVermedia Live Gamer Extreme during the holidays, and I have used an Elgato HD capture for 2 years before this, and I never had this problem before.. So I don't think I have bad HDMI cords?.. and I have tried messing with the OBS setting but I cannot figure out how to resolve this issue. In the software specifically for the LGX (AVerMedia RECentral 2) and I do not see the issue in that software? So that makes me think its OBS?..

Here is an example of what I am talking about http://www.twitch.tv/fersurematt/v/32197754
and its in the very few seconds of the video.

Please help! I have no idea what to do, I cannot find any one else with this problem.. and I'm trying everything before I can call it defective.

need your logfile from that session.

I have the same issue with my Elgato HD60 Pro under Win10

Its not the same issue if its a different card. the HD60 needs to be setup where 1ms buffer for the capture card and full 1080@60 settings. dont use anything else but that.

start your own thread please so its easier to help you both individually.

If I go on OBS and go to help, then log files, then to the most recent one which has the stuttering/flickering as shown in the new video i posted below, then click upload I get that link above^

and here is a new video showing you the stutter in more detail hopefully and shorter and to the point.
http://www.twitch.tv/fersurematt/v/32412681

and at the video end i got an error and OBS crashed.

There is a few things I would do first to baseline you.

1. Remove all monitor captures from scenes, it is advised not to use monitor capture with aero enabled and we need aero for the different video capture device methods below
2. enable aero and use a windows aero theme
3. go back to the standard 700ms scene buffering for now
4. set the buffer in the properties for the GC550 in OBS to 1ms buffer and enable the buffer
5. rebuild both webcam and the GC550 as global sources
6. revert back to the newest chipset, USB3.0, audio and network drivers at your motherboard manufacturer's website (very important)
7. you have audio coming from the webcam that is at 44100 to which your capture device and OBS is set up for 48000Hz format. change the webcam to match 48000Hz (48KHz)
8. ensure that windows is using 48000Hz for both playback and recording devices, this is also very important.

Okay so..
1.) Done, areo is now enabled and I removed all monitor caps from all the scenes
2.) Done, I enabled aero under settings > video > unchecked box
3.) I assume you are talking about Settings>advanced> Use mutithreaded Optimizations> Scene buffering time> which was 2000 and now i set to 700
4.) After making Global sources for my CC (I already had one for my cam), i changed the buffer size on my CC>properties>video.Use buffer> checked box and put 1.
5.) by revert back do you mean check back at the manufacturers drives to make sure i have the latest one? or downgrade my driver and then reinstall the latest one again? I have the latest driver still for USB 3.0

Idk if this issue is correlated, but I keep getting an error pop up say "Out of memory while trying to allocate 4149248 bytes at 72BASE2E" whatever that means.. I checked my windows task manager and it says im using only 3.8gb of memory before i start OBVS and i have 16gb total. 16323..cached 9036, available 12930, free 3413.

Well the best drivers to use are more often than not, the ones from your motherboard manufacturer's website, even if older. This isn't always the case, but if there is a manufacturer fix for the sleep state or performance of USB 3.0 (which is still new), generic drivers might not include those. I'm not saying this is what it is though, its just something to rule out as a possible issue.

please post a log where it was showing the out of memory error. also note you can use 64bit version of OBS if there are x64 drivers for your webcam and capture card (sometimes there aren't). OBS 32bit can only address 4GB of RAM, but I've yet to see this as being an issue.

lastly, please post a new logfile

Okay, I always have and will use the drivers from the manufactures website, I wouldn;t trust any other sites. I just updated every single driver from the manufacturers website. And why I didnt note 7 was because I was currently insralling the drivers and my browser was going to close.
so..

7. I dont have audio from my webcam being used but I do have it set to use my external mic under my cam preferences so I avoid desync issues. But I have no idea how to change to it 4800Hz in obs settings.
8.) I go to playback/recording devices, I right click what I want as default,, then go to properties, then advanced tab, andf then set both the default recording devices and playback devices to 24 bit 4800Hz.. right? I did that.

^^there is a new logfile for the memory error i keep getting.. it s only happening in preview since thats all im using atm to try to fix my capture card.

and how can I tell if I'm using the 64 bit version or 32 bit of OBS?
I have both the 32 bit and 64 bit installed and I just tried using them both again and I run into the same issue.

Also.. for some very odd reason, I enabled aero, and I have an aero windows desktop background, yet in the Log it shows that it is still disabled? Also in the Analysis which I find very strange. I assure you the box is unchecked, and I even went into my regedit and made sure it was enabled under composition (1)/ compositionpolicy (2)

64bit ver located in c:\program files\OBS. 32bit version in program files (x86)\OBS.

As for the audio, no reason to specifiy it twice (remove it from webcam) and leave it on the main page. also check windows recording and playback devices to make sure both are set to 48KHz format as said before. once you are in there, doubleclick on the mic and click advanced tab. you'll see it there.

and as i said I did that by ") I go to playback/recording devices, I right click what I want as default,, then go to properties, then advanced tab, and then set both the default recording devices and playback devices to 24 bit 4800Hz.. right? I did that"

Another out of memory issue?..

Oh, didn't see that. so I'm assuming you are still having the issue?

two things just to rule them out. remove your webcam from your system and that scene, also dont set the mic up in the webcam. test again, instead of using preview, record and play it back in VLC.

(ignore this line - wrong) Newest log file shows: use buffering: true - 10000 ... why? this will require 10 seconds of 1920x1080 YUY2 60 fps = 3.9 GB memory. 32 bit only have 4 GB of address space, and mostly 2 GB usable.

Try different HDMI cable?

Try your capture device in another computer that have USB 3.0. If same problem is still there, the capture hardware might be failing or defective. Maybe also try USB 3.0 hub powered from wall outlet if the problem might be not enough power.

no no no, 10000 is what OBS will save 1ms as.

bufferTime : 1 in scenes.xconfig - it doesn't save 1ms as 10000, although i was wrong about how it logs as 1ms = 10000 timestamp.

I got desperate, I cleared out everything and unplugged my cam from my PC.

I cannot even stream for 12 seconds until this happens, in preview or in Start Stream.

Log: https://gist.github.com/f0d11beb148956711392

and btw, when I pressed okay on the error, OBS crashed..

I think I'm going to try to reinstall OBS since my Aero refuses to become enabled ever again it seems. No matter if i go through regedit, or OBS settings.

Okay, before I uninstalled OBS i decided to try it one last time on the 64 bit version instead of the 32-bit one I mostly use, with nothing other than my CC in my sources and 1 scene. at first it looked as though my CC was lagging behind and everything was displaying slower than on the TV, then a few seconds later it went sonic speed and was playing catchup and now, i see no flickering or any memory error so far and its been 4 mins..

Turn buffering off and keep it off? Probably a bug in "Use Buffering" system.

Looking at the last 10 seconds of the video, it looks like turning on "Use Buffering" have a problem, rendering too slow and buffering too much? Even though the video shows as 1 millisecond, it looks like the delay is getting bigger and bigger, until after about 10 seconds the video ends, and it might indeed trying to buffer more then 10 seconds of video running out of memory.

Maybe use OBS-Multiplatform, a separate download that have a video capture buffer option that fixes or greatly reduces stuttering, and might not have the memory usage problems.
