AverMedia ezmaker 7 not working with OBS

Error message is

DShow: Run failed (0x800705AA): Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.

Device is showing up as a working one in Device Manager. It is displayed as video source in a messenger. But when selected as input device for a source in OBS, there is not red frame indicating output window. I have up to date drivers from AverMedia installed.

Tried it on 4 laptops with 3 different AverMedia capture cards. So frustrating as they are not cheap. Help is much needed and appreciated!

Have you tried using custom settings in source properties for resolution, fps etc. Are you connecting thru a hub? Are any other programs using the cameras?

Yes I have tried playing with custom settings for resolution and fps - in vain. The card is plugged in to a laptop directly. No, there are no other programs installed or using the devices. And it is the same problem on multiple laptops we tried and with 3 AverMedia devices.

Any other ideas what could be the cause? Help appreciated a lot.
