Question / Help Avermedia C985 no audio to OBS Stream

I just bought and hooked up my Avermedia C985 capture card. Currently I am getting video from the capture card but no audio. I am using my PS4 to capture me playing Destiny. The PS4 is hooked up through a 12 ft HDMI cable and then it is hooked up into the monitor I am using.

It will not give me any sound when only using an HDMI cable. I then have tried plugging a 3.5mm jack from the Audio Out to the blue Audio Line In on my MOBO (Asus Sabretooth 990FX v2) and it shows that something is there in my audio recording devices. However, it does not give any sound.

I have searched the forums and this is the closest topic:

Tidy has suggestions (first set):
1) Open OBS
2) Right click on your Avermedia Source and click "Properties"
3) Click "Open Crossbar"
4) In the right hand drop down menu select "1: Audio Decoder Out"
5) In the left hand menu select "1: Audio Line In"
6) If I am using 3.5mm I always tick the box that says "Link Related Streams"
7) Press "OK"
8) Press "OK"

- This for me still produces no audio -

Second set:
1) On the gaming machine "right click" on the speaker icon in the task bar
2) Left Click "Playback Devices"
3) Left Click the "Recording" Tab
4) Double Click on "Stereo Mix" *

* If you don't have stereo mix - then you need to right click somewhere in that list and ensure "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices" are ticked.

5) Click the "Listen" tab
6) Tick the box that says "Listen to this device"
7) In the select box choose the HDMI out, probably labelled something like "AVERMEDIA" / "AVER_4" etc **
8) Press "OK"

- When I go into Playback Devices and under Recording there is no AVERMEDIA or anything denoting this. The only option is the Line In. When I check it to listen to it it still produces no sound -

When I select to use (Use Device Audio) all I get is random static.

Monitor's dont usually have HDMI sound input. how are you getting the PS4 to your TV and elgato capture card?

you might have to get into your PS4 and make sure HDMI sound output is enabled. I have no clue though since I dont own one. check the manual or website for info. if the PS4 isn't sending the audio through the HDMI, then it wont go through the cap card, to OBS.

It is only connected to the monitor from the Avermedia capture card. I do not believe that it has anything to do with the lack of sound as that is the HDMI out and the card isn't available in my audio options.

Also I am not using an ElGato Card. I am using on onboard Avermedia C985 Live Gamer HD card. It is hooked up to my MOBO in the PCI-E slot.

Did your soundcard supports grabbing the line in over line out ? That could be an option. I think, 5.1 cards supports this.

3,5 Jack from ps4 to line in
go to playback devices
go to properties of your soundcard - levels - and check, if there is a option to hear the line in.

That should bring your line in sound on your line out sound.

You have to Config the ps4 too. Go to the av/audio options (don't remember exactly from my ps3) and say, hdmi only video and 3.5 for sound.

So i figured something out. I now get sound from my PS4 to the PC. I had my USB headphones plugged into the PS4 and the PS4 would not play sound through the HDMI cable and the headphones. Now I have a problem though that I need my headphones to be able to communicate with the people I am playing with. Is there any way to be able to have the PS4 output to both the headphones and the HDMI cable?

And thank you very much for your guys' help so far, Nic you gave me the idea for troubleshooting the headphones out when I was able to take a HDMI cable to a TV with speakers and it only played when the headphones were unplugged.
