I add the media source from file and it shows in sources, but will not play or can't hear the media when it tries to play. I've looked at log files but don't see an error. Windows 10 64 bit, 32gb ram. 8gb video ram and latest update.

Hello ~

I am having the same or similar issue (on a mac).

I have created a scene and from my sources section, I have uploaded an MP4 video media file (w/ recorded audio).

However, when I preview (or see) the video playback the video appears and the I can SEE the audio in the audio mixer I just cannot hear anything.

I have no idea what I am doing wrong here....

any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Help.

BradyR - yours is a completely unrelated issue - sounds liek you don't uderstand OBS's audio mixer especially Monitor vs Output
Audio related OBS references
BBurden - can you play the video at the operating system level? [a good check, though not authoritative that success at this level means will definitely work in OBS, or vice-versa.. but I'm getting ahead of myself]

Having a file doesn't mean it is 1. encoded correctly, or 2 if file is fine, that your PC has the right decoder to play the video
Then just because the Operating System can (or can not) play a video, doesn't mean the same for OBS using its own (or built-in VLC) players
Sometimes you need to add a decoder. Or try VLC instead of default Media Player. And sometimes you have to re-encode the video file to something OBS can work with... it depends

As always, a little RTFM goes a long way
