Audio Stuttering and Pitch Distortion When OBS is Minimized with "Control Audio via OBS" Enabled

Issue Description:
Environment:

  • OBS Version: 31.0.3 (64-bit)
  • OS: Windows 11 24H2
  • Hardware: AMD Ryzen 5800X, 32GB DDR4-6400
Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Configure OBS with default or common settings.
  2. Add a Browser Source with the URL set to https://www.youtube.com(or any other video site) and resolution set to 1920x1080.
  3. Enable the "Control audio via OBS" option for the Browser Source.

  5. Play a YouTube video through the Browser Source.
  6. Minimize OBS to the system tray or background.
Observed Behavior:
After minimizing OBS for a few seconds, audio begins to stutter and experience pitch distortion.

Expected Behavior:
Audio should play smoothly regardless of OBS being foregrounded or minimized.

Additional Notes:

  • The issue does not occur if "Control audio via OBS" is disabled.
  • Disabling "Control audio via OBS" reduces audio control flexibility during recording, which is suboptimal for workflows requiring precise audio management.
Troubleshooting Attempted:

  • Confirmed issue persists across default and common OBS configurations.
  • Verified YouTube video playback works normally outside OBS or when "Control audio via OBS" is disabled.
