Question / Help Audio Skips When Streaming

kordien

New Member
As the title states, when I start to stream, the stream audio skips every 4-5 seconds.. Similar to an old scratched CD. I tried changing the audio settings to MP3, and I tried changing the bit rate, but nothing seems to help. Can anyone give me some pointers?

no, anything that comes through my headset seems to skip on the stream, but my voice from the mic doesnt skip. It's pretty strange. For instance. even when talking to a friend on skype while streaming, It sounds nice and clear to me, but when I open my stream, the audio is skipping when my friend talks. I'm pretty lost for ideas. It's not a problem I experience with x-s-p-l-i-t, so it has to be some setting with OBS. But what could it be?

*UPDATE* Still skipping. Tried every combination of settings but no go. I do not have this issue with x-s-p-l-i-t, only OBS....
so it doesnt seem to make any sense

*Update* I quit streaming because the audio skipping got worse again. I tried streaming again today, and the same problem. Listening to my stream, the sound skips every 5 seconds or so, like a scratched CD would. I have no idea what to do. Can't stream with this problem. Anyone know anything that could help?

Sorry this thread didn't get much attention...sometimes they can slip through the cracks.

Can you post a log from a more updated version of OBS, and a video example of the sound issues you're having?

I've only ever seen this issue happening to people that are overloading their system. Voice completely fine, but music skips periodically. What fixed it for someone else was lowering a webcam resolution, which presumably took some stress off the motherboard because he was also using onboard audio. Some motherboards have only so much data they can throw around before they start hitting their limits.

It also seems like your headset is a USB one, so you can also try plugging the cam or the headset into completely different USB hubs. If you have a USB 3.0 slot, you should plug your cam into that. Each USB 3.0 slot gets dedicated bandwith, USB 2.0 slots are shared on the hub.

Okay, I did a 2 minute video recording on twitch, just playing a couple songs from my itunes. You can clearly hear how the stream audio skips every 5 seconds or so. http://www.twitch.tv/kordien/b/479740148

I'll also attach the log for that.
As for the USB headset, i've tried using different headsets that don't use USB ports, and i've tried streaming with no cam, doesn't make a difference.

I'm fairly sure this is either something to do with devices plugged into your computer, or general timing on your computer being off (which can be due to improper overclocks). If you messed with the devices and unplugged them and such and it didn't make a difference, and tried other speakers, then it would probably be the computer timing, though I'm just guessing here.

i have no idea how to over clock, so I wouldn't even try that in the first place lol. I don't really mess with my computers settings ever. So i don't know what else to try at this point. It makes no sense how it only does this with OBS.

I've only seen similar things happen in those two instances -- generally it's either motherboard related due to the way we calculate timing, or it's caused by an improper overclock. Hm, perhaps I can add in an option to use a different internal timer to base time off of, I really dislike that this can even have issues. Thanks for pointing it out at least. I'll see if I can add a new option to use a different timer in the next version in the advanced settings, perhaps that will help.

Hello, I am having the same problem. Though, this I'm pretty sure has only recently started when I had to switch back to my Razer Megalodons (was using SteelSeries Siberia Elites, but had to send them back due to defect). I have taken a read over this topic and have turned off the exclusive mode to my speakers and microphone (though the microphone is unaffected). I also have my USB Headset plugged into a USB 3.0 port as well as my Logitech HD Pro C920. I due have quite a bit of USB products plugged in, but only 2 of them are plugged into USB 2.0. So as the admin has stated and I paraphrase, the USB 3.0 use their own hub while the USB 2.0 share a hub. Log posted from my end. Hope this helps in solving the issue. Though I have a feeling when I get my Siberia Elites back I won't have this issue.

These Razer Megalodons are VERY VERY VERY picky about what USB port I plug them into. There is only 1 port that they will detect and work on out of all my 12 ports. Saying this makes it seem like a Razer issue, but when the sound stops the Sound meter in OBS freezes at a certain point and I can still turn the volume up and down on the control box for the Megalodons. Plus I decided to use MoE and play the same game (Planetside 2 in this case) w/o streaming and I didn't get any skipping.

Hope this helps & thanks,
