Question / Help Audio Output Very Low

Hi, this is my first message on the site. My problem is that the sound reproduction I'm getting is way too low. I assume my settings are wrong somehow, but I can't figure it out. I am using a pretty cheap condenser mic which is simply plugged into the front audio mic jack socket. Please help if you can, it's really frustrating having to turn my output volume up, not to mention potentially damaging! Thanks in advance for any help!

What exact mic are you trying to use?

Condenser mics need what's called phantom power. This is only going to be supplied by a mixer or audio interface in the form of +48v power over XLR, or by the mic being connected over USB and supplying its own internal power to drive the condenser. Without this power, the output signal is barely distinguishable over electrical noise.
