Audio Monitoring not working

I'm wondering if someone can help me get audio monitoring to work. It seems pretty straightforward but no matter what I try, nothing works.

I have my Mic/Aux device set to "Monitor and Output". I can record video with my voice in it but I can't send my voice live to a device.

Under Settings / Audio / Advanced, I set the Monitoring Device to several different things to test and get something working, but regardless of device, no output is sent there.

I'm thinking I am missing something. Some setting somewhere is incorrect. But what?
I'm using Voicemeeter Banana, if that matters. What I really want is to send my voice (with various filters) to Discord via VB virtual cable. I've got the driver installed and the cable shows up as an output for monitoring. But of course nothing actually gets sent out.

Anyone have any ideas? I've asked all the AIs but none of them have a clue.

Could you send screenshots of how you have made the connections? Both in obs and voicemeter.
I also have the doubt... If you're already using voicemeter to manage your audio, why do you need or want your microphone audio to go through obs?

They usually don't.

I second that question. OBS's audio is okay as a passthrough, but its pretty bad for features and usability.

So keep OBS as silent as you can, and connect all of your audio stuff (mics, headphones, etc.) to something else. Have that something else do all the work, and send the final, already-mastered soundtrack to OBS to pass through unchanged.
