i have been using dual pc setup many years, and i had this desync problem, and i was like hmm i didn't have this problem back in the days, so i tested old obs versions and what i found was THERE IS NO DESYNC problem with 27.1.3 then i installed 27.2.4 and THERE WE GOOO all the desync is back with audio monitoring

So my question is what changed back then? can you guys pls check audiomonitor change you did back then

Tested with hd60 +s and hd60x

If i want to keep my capturecard audio synced i will use 27.1.3 till you found a fix for it.

Streaming PC has newest there is no problem at all.

I believe I found a regression related to audio/video sync with capture cards in newer OBS versions.

Hardware

  • Elgato HD60 X
  • Dual PC setup
  • Gaming PC running OBS
  • Streaming PC receives capture normally

Regression range

  • OBS 27.1.3 → works perfectly
  • OBS 27.2.4 and newer → audio becomes desynced

I tested multiple newer OBS versions and the issue always exists after 27.1.3.

Issue description

The HD60 X audio becomes delayed by approximately 300–500 ms compared to video.

This desync appears immediately after certain events such as:

  • restarting a game
  • opening/reopening Chrome
  • audio session/device refreshes

The desync is not gradual drift over time in my case anymore — it happens instantly after those triggers.

Important behavior

  • The desync is present in:
    • OBS preview
    • recordings
    • livestream output
  • Restarting the HD60 X source does NOT fix the issue
  • Deactivate/reactivate source does NOT fix it
  • Restarting OBS immediately restores proper sync
  • OBS 27.1.3 does not have this issue at all under identical conditions

Things already tested

  • "Use Device Timestamps" ON/OFF
    • no difference
  • HDMI audio vs Analog audio
    • issue still occurs
  • 48 kHz everywhere in Windows/OBS
  • Different buffering settings
  • Different games/applications

Possible trigger

The issue seems related to:

  • audio device/session reinitialization
  • WASAPI session changes
  • DirectShow/UVC capture audio handling
  • or audio graph rebuilding after 27.2.x changes

Because:

  • restarting OBS fully fixes sync
  • source reload does not
  • older OBS works correctly

this looks like a regression introduced somewhere between 27.1.3 and 27.2.4.

And in the end specs

Latest OBS version is 32.1.2
The one you're asking for is no longer supported. For this old OBS versions you need to pair it with old GPU drivers from that time too, and verify the drivers for the capture card are compatible with all this.

It's highly recommended to use a portable version of OBS 32.1.2 to test it, unless you're also on an ancient OS system.

im with win11, but only workaround this time is to keep spotify playing in background so it wont go desync.
