Audio Mixer: "Preview" vs. "Active"

After upgrading to the most recent version of OBS (32.1.0) I'm struggling with audio inputs. I.e. in studio mode some always are shown as "Preview" and are marked as "preview" and are not active and therefore don't work. When switching off the studio mode then these sources become "active". Why this behaviour? What does that mean?
Could anybody enlighten me?

the behavior hasn't changed, it just is now labeled. you need to click "transition" to transition to the scene the audio sources you are seeing are in.
