Audio Lag

I am a complete novice here, so bear with me. I'm trying to digitie our old 8 mm tapes using a Sony Camcorder and the OBS Studio software. Everytime I do one, the audio is off. At first it was an echo. That seems better, but now the audio is off by a second or two and I don't know how to fix it.
If you can explain the help like I'm in second grade, that would be great. :)

If it's a constant offset, then you can trial-and-error the Sync Offset in the Advanced Audio Properties. Bigger numbers make the audio come later. It does take negative too, with the risk of the audio breaking up because it eats into the buffer. If you need the audio to come earlier, then it would be better to keep the Sync Offset at zero and delay the picture instead with a filter.

Which way do you need to go?

Or if the offset slowly grows over time, then that's a different problem that's come up before, but I still don't have an answer for.

Thanks for the help! So when i watch the playback, I see mouths moving before I hear the words. Probably a full second later. So how do i compensate?

The audio is late (by a LOT compared to the typical processing delay), so we'll need to delay the picture to line back up with it.

Right-click the video source -> Filters. Then under Audio/Video Filters, add a delay. Tweak the setting so that the recorded file is right. You'll get pretty close to start with, and then trial and error from there.
