Audio fades in at beginning of recordings

Hey guys, I know this is a rehash of a post from someone else a year ago, but the answer to that post was deleted and I could not find another answer anywhere else.

When I record videos using OBS, whether I'm using a microphone or playing back system audio, the audio fades in over the first couple of seconds, which usually means the first few words I say (when on mic) are unintelligible. When using system audio, if there are sounds at the beginning of the recording, those fade in too.

It seems to be most noticeable when the sound comes after some silence if that helps.

The issue does not occur when recording through an online voice recorder.
The answer said something about checking a setting in the Windows Sound Settings, but since the answer was seemingly deleted, I could not for the life of me know what it meant.
The person who asked the question hasn't been active in a year either, so there's no way I'm going to be able to message them.
