Question / Help Audio Echo issue!

Hi, I read through all the audio guides but none of them seem to refer to my problem. I want viewers on my stream to be able to hear everything on my desktop, however, I don't want the sound to echo back at me. How can I stop this from happening? For example, in game, I will hear a sound, then 2 seconds later it echoes again. Tried all kinds of different stuff, but so far I can only figure out mute or unmute etc, seems I can stop the echo, but then viewers on my stream can't hear any sound. Help please! Edit: Like, I tried muting OBS thru the windows sound settings, but then stream can't hear it, I mute the sound in OBS itself, stream can't hear it, I tried using VAC and setting default device to VAC Line 1, but then stream can't hear sound either. So basically right now my only options is 1. leave sound unmuted so stream can hear sound or 2. mute OBS so I can't hear the echo, but then stream has no sound. Note: I'm not watching the stream on my pc, I merely have OBS open and the echo comes from that. I'm so confused right now :/

No, I'm not watching my own stream, it's echoing from the OBS program! How can I mute OBS on my own pc without muting it for the stream??

Like, even if I exit the game, and click stop streaming, it will continue to echo sounds at me for several minutes! And again, no, I'm not watching my own stream, the only windows I have open is the game and OBS!

OBS doesn't produce any sound, so no, there is no way to mute OBS in any way.

Another thing you might check is if you have any microphones with "listen to this device" enabled in its properties, if so, disable that, and see if it still echoes.

From your second post, this seems to be the issue, OBS definitely can't do anything when it's not active.

I checked and no, none of my devices are set to "listen to this device" in their properties. The only thing that seems to get rid of the echo so far is if I mute OBS in the sound properties, but then the stream itself doesn't have any audio.

I never figured out what the problem was, but restarting my PC seems to have fixed it for now, thx for the help!
