Question / Help Audio drops for 10ish frames once or twice each minute

Hi! So I've got an audio problem.

Log File: It's attached and also at: https://pastebin.com/2S0sLKhN
Video documentation: https://youtu.be/jEvwrRGQWIs
Happens at: 00:01:40, 00:02:20, and 00:03:05

When I record gameplay, at least once each minute if not more frequently, the audio completely drops for 10ish frames, then comes back. It happens with every recording and sometimes several times very quickly. I am recording two separate audio tracks, one for my mixer, one for game audio. The audio drops on both tracks. When recording with AMD ReLive and Audacity, there is no problem, but I really really prefer OBS.

It does seem to happen less with less intensive games. Although even with very old, easy to run games, it will eventually happen. Before getting a mixer, I used to record with a blue yeti microphone which had a similar issue. In the case of the blue yeti though, my microphone audio would speed up and become garbled, then it would drop the audio for 20 seconds or so before coming back.

I've searched and searched these and other forums for a solution to no avail, so I really appreciate any help you can give.

Thank You!

In your log it shows that OBS is having to keep adding more audio buffering. I'm not an expert on this, but I'd suggest trying things which reduce the amount of audio processing your system needs to do; drop the bitrate of your audio tracks, or try recording at 30fps instead of 60, and see if those help. Also, if you have any audio filters or VSTs assigned on your audio tracks, see if removing or disabling any of them helps.

Hey Benman! Hey Simes! Thanks for the help.

So I just ran four tests doing what you told me and have the log files attached. I had previously been recording 192kbps, 60fps, 48khz. Each of the settings I tried had no effect in my tests, with the audio dropping out at about the same rate and amount as before.

Test 1: 128kbps 60fps 48khz Log file: https://pastebin.com/PUyzr6vj
Test 2: 128kbps 30fps 48khz Log file: https://pastebin.com/xZkhAjQZ
Test 3: 64kbps 30fps 48khz Log file: https://pastebin.com/9dN6k5v1
Test 4: 64 kbps 30 fps 44.1khz Log file: https://pastebin.com/fdwCMC59

Also, I just did the same 192kbps 60fps 48khz recording with my old Blue Yeti, and there seemed to be no problem.
Here is the log file for that: https://pastebin.com/9PL9i9Lg

The setup I've been using and having problems with is a Yamaha MG12XU mixer with way better microphones. Also, I feel like it's worth nothing that throughout all of this I'm recording to two separate audio tracks, although I believe I tried it with just one audio track and it still had the same problem.

Solved! Well, mostly.

On the community chat Fenrir pointed out that I should try the x264 encoder instead of the AMD H264 encoder. It totally works now! They pointed out that the current AMD H264 isn't too great, and there should be an improved version in OBS 19.0.0.

So anyways, I don't have the issue when using the x264 encoder. So go try that if you're having similar issues!
