Question / Help Audio buzzes and pops (putt putt putt ...)

45 second audio sample MP3 linked.

My first day of attempts to record activity and OBS was easy to get working and does a great job BUT - I have this situation of repeating but random periods of a buzz of about a second followed by anywhere from 10s to 30s of putt putt putt ...
It sure sounds like the kind of buzz I'd expect from an analog phono cable with a short in it and the pops from interference. However, I get none of this leaving everything absolutely alone and recording with Audacity instead.

The signal chain is a Audio Technica $80 lavalier, into a small desktop 1/8" to USB convertor (the pass through of a Zoom H1), into a USB port on the case of the computer.

OBS settings are for Recording: High Quality, Medium File Size / Format: MP4 / Encoder: Software (x264)
OBS 24.0.1 - Windows 10 Home, i5-6600, 16 GB RAM, SSD system/program drive, saving to a 1 TB disk drive.

For now I suspect it was outside interference. Since the first day, I've been recording over 50 minutes total in 8 clips averaging 5 minutes each. That first day I couldn't go half a minute before the noises showed up.
As to the question from Narcogen, both hardware and software are matched settings.

OBS is very easy to use immediately and get good results. I don't over think the settings, just see that my audio level is responding and hit Record. The mp4's are going into editing in Davinci Resolve anyway.
