Question / Help Aspect Ratio Help

Hi everyone

I've done a bit of a search on this already and have tried a few suggestions from other people, but for some reason I still can't seem to get rid of black bars on the side of my Twitch stream

I'm not an expert by any means and admittedly don't fully understand different ratios - But I know just enough to have had a fiddle around in the settings

My monitor's resolution is 1920x1200 so, as far as I can tell, I've needed to downscale it for Twitch so it goes to a 16:9 resolution (correct me if I'm wrong). So, after looking at a couple of other people's methods I've changed a few settings and still have the vertical black bars on either side of the stream image - But not in the stream preview on OBS. I've tried lower resolutions that have made it look quite strange on the stream preview, but then STILL to have the vertical bars actually on the Twitch stream

Because I don't fully understand it, I'm really starting to pull my hair out. Googling it and looking through forums has helped to SOME extent but, because I don't understand why I'm not getting a result it feels like I've hit a wall here

Any further help would be greatly appreciated!

Your monitor is 16:10 and the Twitch player is 16:9, so you will always have black bars unless you also change your monitor resolution to 1920x1080 or manually set such a resolution and fill the empty space yourself.

Thanks for the quick response. This is where I've either gone wrong elsewhere or there's something else going on that I just don't get

I've changed the res to 1920x1080 now but, in the preview on OBS I have black bars on either side. On top of that, if I check out the actual Twitch stream, the image is absolutely tiny in the center of the video screen. I've not selected anything for resolution downscale at this point either

Changing your base resolution in OBS to 1920x1080 when your source content is still 1920x1200 isn't going to fix anything. You will need to do one of the following:

1) run your game at a 16:9 resolution,
2) stretch the source in OBS outside of its proper aspect ratio, distorting it,
3) fill in the extra black area with a background image or some other content, or
4) don't worry about the black bars added by the Twitch video player.
