Question / Help Anyone else having this strange issue with OBS / OBS install

I was using OBS maybe a couple days ago.

I went to click on the start menu shortcut that appears for most recently used programs in W7, and I got the can't find this program this shortcut refers to - do you want to delete it?...box.

I was ...uh what...I went searching my apps drive for the folder, and it was there (forgot to actually look for the exe though). My Start menu had the OBS folder with the 64 bit option shortcut but the 32 bit was broken.

I redownloaded OBS, reinstalled to the same place, and then the shortcut worked. OBS opened as usual with the same scenes.

I don't recall closing OBS but then I noticed it was gone.

I went to open it again via the start menu. It wasn't in the recent list, so I went to the OBS entry in All Programs. Now I find that the OBS folder is there but it is empty. I tried reinstalling OBS again, watched it sit there installing then it vanished without telling me it was installed/finished installing. Reinstalling did not fix the menu issue so I had to manually create a shortcut and drag it there.

Re: Anyone else having this strange issue with OBS / OBS ins

I just started my computer this morning, started up my game, went to click the manually created shortcut for the 32 bit OBS, and once again the OBS.exe in the main folder has vanished.

The 64 bit folder and exe are there and started up fine, although within a minute of previewing with the game started, the game just vanished off the desktop. This could be an issue with the game and the 64 bit version...hmm but I restarted the game and now it will not show in the preview.

Nothing else on my computer seems to be affected.

It may be your anti-virus, detecting OBS as a potential threat (which it isn't).

Usually it notifies me.

I just uninstalled then reinstalled to a different partition on the same drive. This time it installed normally, with the last window with the checkbox to start OBS, and it installed the entries on the Start menu normally.

If you're installing onto an SSD, I've had a failing disk exhibit similar symptoms before dying horribly.

Not a SSD.

It happened again...

If this happens again after reinstalling again, I am going to try on the other HD. If it happens again I am going to suspect a virus targeting it since nothing else like this is happening.

Add program files (x86)/obs folder to your anti-virus software ignore list. I had the same problem in the past but this fixed it. In my case it didn't delete the .exe files but it deleted the capturehook files. But your av software maybe finds false positive from the exe and my av found it from capturehook files.

Btw what av you are using? Can be useful for someone finding this thread later using search or google.

Adding a folder that doesn't exist wouldn't make any difference. Note I said I have an apps partition.
I use AVG. It hasn't happened again yet after starting up my computer today, and starting OBS.

It is exceedingly unlikely there is any virus out there specifically targeting OBS. It is far more likely it is, as I suggested before your anti-virus labeling OBS as a potential threat.

The ultimate test for which would be to simply disable your AV for a while to see if the problem persists.
