Question / Help Any tips for super-low bitrate streaming?

Ahoy there guys!

I currently have an uplink of 800kbps, which is the best connection I can get, because I live in this amazingly stone-age place called Australia. To compound the issue, I tend to like streaming modern games with lots of movement.

I've got a setup which is generally acceptably watchable for most people, but since our country's internet situation isn't likely to be improved in the near future, I'm wondering if I can squeeze any more quality from my current setup in the mean-time.

My current settings are:
- 854x480
- Audio: 96kbps/Video: 700kbps
- 25fps
- "Faster" x264 preset
- I generally stream an Xbox 360 hooked to an SD capture device through an Amarec TV capture window. Output window looks very clean.

These are equivalent or lower than the settings provided to me by the settings calculator from the FAQ. Current thinking is that I should bump down my resolution a bit, thoughts?

Here's a short highlight which has some high-movement near the start and end. -- http://www.twitch.tv/potatohandle/c/3263901

Thanks a bundle for any help!

Lowering your FPS to 20 will produce a clearer picture, if you don't mind the slight animation loss.

What kind of PC specs are you working with? You could probably use some custom x264 settings to help squeak out a bit better picture, too.

Bumping down your resolution isn't a bad idea. Feel free to play with whatever settings you want to find what you think produces the best image.
