Any plan for a wayland compatible OBS version for Debian 13 and Ubuntu 26.04 LTS both on Pi 500+ and x86_64 machines?

Hello,

My question is in the title.

I'm ashamed to use wf-recorder.

So, I came here to get information about an OBS Studio version which could run on Raspberry Pi 500+ under Debian 13 (trixie) and Ubuntu 26.04 LTS (resolute) as well as on x86_64 machines, since these distributions now use the Wayland environment by default?

Is there any work in this way?

TIA for your response.

Cheers.

There is no official Arm64 support (yet). Specifically on RapsberryPi your issue will be that the GPU supports OpenGL 3.1 while OBS requires OpenGL 3.3.

Hi Tuna,

Thank you for your post.

So, unfortunately, I'm forced to stick with wf-record.

In my opinion, Wayland is a complete disaster: it destroys many classic Gnome features mainly with the terminal bash commands without offering any performance or usability gains whatsoever.

And of course, Canonical proudly promotes it with absolutely no regard for its long-time users, simply responding to their akward questions with: "Won't fix."!

What arrogance and shame!

And it's a shame because OBS Studio is a fantastic and essential killer application.

Let's hope that while the OBS folks are working on a solution to run with the crappy Wayland, they won't loose to many users forced to upgrade their operating system both with Debian 13 (trixie) and Ubuntu 24.06 LTS (resolute).

Cheers.

OBS works fine with Wayland. With a few exceptions like hotkeys, but there even existsa plugin for that. There are good reasons everyone moves to Wayland.

Hello Tuna,

Thank you for your response.

If I may, please can you tell me where I could find such plugin for wf_recorder which works on Debian trixie and its wayland gui both on Raspberry PI 5 and classic x64_86 systems?

BTW I'm curious, please can you tell me too what are such "good reasons" everyone moves to wayland but the Canonical hype since it breaks several major bash commands and escape sequences such as, for exemple, the window lines and columns modifications of a terminal window as well as the save and restore window coordinates?

TIA for your help and tips.

Cheers.
