Question / Help AMD Radeon HD 7800 + OBS

Hey all, I am just trying to record to my computer and not stream.

What are the best settings I can get out of this. I don't get very good quality video (atleast I don't think).

I have it at 1920 x 1080 @ 30fps at the moment and I think that looks pretty decent but something just doesn't look right. I set my bitrate to 25,000 to see if that helped and it did but I am not sure.

I have changed the advanced settings to give OBS priority and set the millisecond count to 700 as OBS has directed.

I think I took off "Use" CBR in the general settings and it helped make it look better, should I have that on or off?

x264 preset is Ultrafast
Encoding Profile is High
Keyframe Interval is 2 -- Going to try 0 after I get done with this post to see if that helps.

Use CFR is unchecked
Then everything else is unchecked.

Not sure if I need to change anything else or not or even something on my PC to get it going properly, all comments are welcome!

Stats:

AMD Radeon HD 7800
6GB of RAM (SSD3)

Its a pretty good machine, I think it should be able to handle the CPU usage.

Can anyone help by chance?

Been trying stuff out but it doesn't seem to be working.

720p video definitley does not look 720p. Neither does the 1080p.

Its too dull, it doesn't look sharp, and the colors don't look right.

x264 preset is Ultrafast this is your problem, switch to very fast and call it a day. I would use CFR if you are planning to edit the video later

the slower it encodes, the more time the CPU spends on each frame to make a better looking encode.
ultrafast is really low quality, but low CPU usage
slower is really high quality, really high cpu usage.

if you post your PC specs and what games you will be recording, I might be able to tell you that you can go lower
then very fast!

Also, with your 7800, you can use your GPU to encode, see https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/obs-branch-with-amd-vce-support.13996/ thread and download it in a separate directory. this is a separate build of OBS called a fork, it is a modified build that has features not yet in the main build.so put it somewhere like your desktop.
