All PC audio (both within OBS and outside OBS) gets distorted after opening OBS

I have been having a recurring issue with OBS Studio where upon opening OBS all audio on my PC gets radically distorted and becomes unusable. Upon closing OBS the problem corrects itself and I can continue to use my PC.

This happens most times that I open OBS, but occasionally it will just work fine and I won't experience any issues.

Has anyone had a similar issue and found a way to permanently resolve it?
