Bug Report After Stream, saved video files are being corrupted?

So I got in the habit of having OBS save my streams to the hard drive, however, once in awhile, a video file messes up. It shows the bytes of the file, and all that, but theres no length, and if I try to play the file, it locks up the video player. Anyway to fix these files? They have important footage I must save.

Are you saving them as MP4 or FLV? Do you record with CFR enabled? What player are you using to watch them?

Can you upload an example of the problematic file?

Did OBS crash while generating this video?

Personally I recommend saving files as FLV and then converting to MP4 afterwards with this method to avoid corruption from OBS crashing.

I actually had this problem as well. Weird thing is that the videos worked fine for me the first time viewing. Checked back later and they were all corrupted and wouldn't load.

solidxpanda - If the videos worked the first time you viewed it then it wouldn't be OBS' fault in that particular case.

I do want to know if you guys are crashing or getting freezes that would be causing this though.

Hi!

I've had this problem on two different files on two different setups/computers as well.
The settings was set to CBR, 2.5mbit, mp4 and the files are around 5 and 8 GB.

Neither of the times OBS crashed or seamed to have any issues at all until I tried to view the files afterwards.

The message log in VLC says there are 20+ parallel video streams in the file - and then it locks up...

Would also love to find out if someone have managed to recover any of the material and in that case how..

Best Regards

Have you tried with the 64bit version of VLC? Certain video files require it
