After OBS 29 update, OBS crashes when accessing video source

After updating to OBS 29, any time I either select a non-visible media source or try to open a scene containing a visible source, OBS freezes briefly and then crashes out.

If there is a non-visible media source on a scene, OBS won't crash until I either try to make it visible or click on it.

OBS is now unusable.

Attached are log and crash logs.
TIA!

Applied the v29 update today... same problem. Crashes whenever I attempt to activate a window or display capture. Attempting to edit the properties of either a new or existing window or display capture also causes the same crash. A representative crash log is attached (I've got 13 more if you're interested - from activating display capture, attempting to edit display capture, attempting to create new display capture, attempting to display new window capture. All have exactly the same headers (except for timestamp, of course):
Unhandled exception: c0000005
Date/Time: 2023-01-20, 09:26:14
Fault address: 7FFCC79F0090 (c:\program files\obs-studio\bin\64bit\qt6widgets.dll)
libobs version: 29.0.0 (64-bit)
Windows version: 10.0 build 19044 (release: 21H2; revision: 2486; 64-bit)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor

I have reinstalled v28.1.2, so at least I'm not dead in the water. Hopefully this issue will be fixed (or at least explained) in the foreseeable future, though.

They should provide support for this. Anyway.
Uninstall streamelements plugin, remove the remaining files from the %appdata%\obs-studio folder.
Now uninstall OBS and reinstall it.
You don't need to remove the settings files but it's adviced to backup scene collections and profiles.

I cannot locate anything anywhere that looks like scene collections and profiles.

I have 5 physical drives in my PC. The user folders are remapped off drive C (it's an NVMe and only 250GB) and onto drive D (2TB) ... but somewhere in the last 6 years I goofed, so on the D drive I have
/Program Files/....
/Program Files (x86)/ ....
/WINSTALLS/Program Files/ ....
/WINSTALLS/Program Files(x86)/ ....
Generally this isn't a problem as I know which apps are in which structure.

I've verified OBS appears in D:/WINSTALLS/Program Files (x86)/OBS-Studio/ but cannot find anything in there for scene collections and profiles.
I've checked the D:/Program Files (x86)/ ... structure and there's no OBS folder in there, also none in C:/Program Files (x86)/ ... so it looks like at least I don't have a "confused" install in that regard.
The desktop shortcut for OBS Studio runs as administrator (always has due to user folder remapping) so that's not the issue.

But I cannot find any files listing source or scene collections or profiles. Where should they be located? and what file suffix are they using?

Edit - I think I just found them - Windows appears to have not respected the remapping of user folders to drive D and some items are buried in C:/WINDOWS/users/%username%/AppData/Roaming/obs-studio/ .... which should not be there and should be on the D drive heirarchy.

The crash logs are also in here (yesterday's latest one is attached to this post now).

Just realised - don't believe I have the Streamelements plugin ...

I have the standalone desktop installs for Streamlabs Chatbot and Streamlabels (which provides the sources for some of my streaming template overlay components, but those are just text files built and updated automatically on the D drive in the documents folder).

I don't use SLOBS - yuch, tried it, hated it as a resources hog, went back to OBS-Studio. I also don't use any of the StreamElements applets and utilities, just the two Streamlabs apps mentioned above.

Yet still, after the upgrade to OBS-Studio v29, OBS crashes during start up - everytime - even after reinstalling v28.1.2 over the top ov v29, which is how I fixed the same issue about 5 or 6 major version numbers back.

I also have the same symptoms as rpgdinosaurbob.
It would be nice if it could be addressed in a future update.
It looks like we'll have to wait for an update for now?
Whenever I try to activate a window or display capture it crashes. The same crash occurs when trying to edit the properties of a new or existing window or display capture.

Please include the crash log to ensure it's the same kind of crash. If it is, removing Streamelements should solve it.

As posted above - not in my case, any other ideas?
You have an unrelated crash.
